A Gift Of Love
It is said that when rendered well a song comes from the heart. It is the heart singing in unison with the singer, an exquisite blend of body and soul. When that same song comes from the hearts of two people unified by a deep love for one another, that song takes on a spirit that sends it soaring.
Imagine then a song sung by mother and daughter. A song that comes from a place of pure and unconditional love. Two voices in harmony, in sync because they are two of one, different yet similar in ways that can only be because of the special bond that ties mother to daughter and vice versa.
When Clara and her daughter Giulia, both acclaimed talented singer-performers in their own right, decided to combine their talent to produce this EP, it was with one goal in mind; to give new interpretation to known songs that speak of love, hope and affection, but to do this in a manner that lifted the songs above mere elegant harmonies and sweeping vocal dynamics. As mother and daughter Clara and Giulia wanted to share with their listeners the intimate bond they two share as mother and daughter; a bond that can inspire the deep sense of need in each of us to love and be loved in spite of the real or imagined shortcomings we may feel we have.
Songs speak to us because we hear ourselves sung back to us, consciously or otherwise. We hear in the lyrics of a song the words writ large about who we are, what we seek, what we desire, and who and why we love as we do. Songs are often tapestries woven out of the experiences of being human, of our strengths and foibles. Songs speak to our heart. The five songs in this EP trace the arc of the relationship between Clara and her daughter Giulia.
This EP titled “A Gift Of Love,” then is a gift of song to all of us who can identify and relate to the power of love to bind us inextricably with those we know intimately, and those we know from a distance. A point in fact is the beautiful tribute to Olivia Newton-John –“I Honestly Love You.” Or the whimsical playfulness of Cindy Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” where mother and daughter give new voice to a call to joyous celebration about what it means to be a woman…of any age.
Motherhood is a gift, a privilege. Being a daughter is the gift in reality to that mother. These songs are a tribute to the exuberance of love and devotion that flows between one to the other and back again. The “Somewhere” in the melancholic beauty of the timeless song “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” is everywhere in this collection. It is in every song, in every nuanced phrasing of this mother and daughter pairing. Herein is an expression of the relentless pursuit of trying to put into words and music that which is too often almost impossible to articulate; the bonds that bind us to those we most love and cherish.
Just as Giulia offered the idea for an EP to her mother as an expression of her love, so too they now together offer their unique interpretations of these five classic songs to you with gratitude and thanks.
